This book begins with chapters on balance of payments calculations, the mechanisms of adjustment and "the Rise of the Bretton Woods System." His approach to the balance of payments is not that of many economists with their students; it is more "accounting and finance" oriented. But in it is heard the voice of an economist, one more accustomed to board rooms than to seminar rooms. Adjustment and liquidity are treated well though briefly, while the Bretton Woods chapter summarizes the Keynes and White plans and emphasizes the politics that surround international monetary reform. Chapters on the pound and the dollar follow, and the book concludes with a long chapter on "Plans for Reform"
