520 _aThe last group of essays printed in this volume arises from my the author's role as a tax specialist. Of the five essays reproduced in this volume, the first deals with the tax system of Britain. The second analyses the tax reform adopted in India in 1957. The third, prepared for a Conference on Fiscal Reform by the Organization of American States in Santiago, Chile, sets out the major requirements of an efficient system of taxation in such countries. The fourth deals with the political and social obstacles to tax reform. The last paper mainly deals with the long controversial issue of the incidence and economic effects of taxes on business profits in advanced countries, like the U.K. and the U.S.
