Summary: The (IEA) International Energy Agency collaborative Programme in energy research, development and demonstration has been pursuing three principal objectives: 1) To seek ways in which technologies can be actively brought to maturity and enter the market place through demonstration, leading to commercialization, with countries sharing risks and benefits; 2) To encourage Member governments to support national energy RD & D as a prudent and necessary investment and; 3) To encourage and stimulate a sound international information base, which would provide support both for the development of new technologies with advanced concepts, materials and components, and for the forward planning of energy RD & D policy in IEA Member countries.
