Summary: There was no dearth of energy studies at the time (1976), but most of them dealt only with selective aspects of the energy problem. Some focused on oil, some on coal, nuclear, solar, or other energy sources. Some were concerned with technological questions, or environmental issues, or other selected aspects of the problem. RFF (Resources for the Future) sought to provide a comprehensive synthesis. This book is a culmination of that National Energy Strategies Project, and it is indeed comprehensive. It includes energy demand, consumption, and the economy; all likely sources of supply; impacts on health, safety, and the environment; and their complex interrelations- long term and short.
