In seven case studies the authors analyse seven prototypes of African development finance institutions: the multi-national African Development Bank in the Ivory Coast; three national institutions in Cameroun, Ghana and Kenya, respectively, which operate in various economic sectors and differ widely in organization and policies; the powerful Uganda Development Corporation which - with its subsidiaries - is the country's largest entrepreneur; a bank for the promotion of the industrial sector in the Ivory Coast; and a government agency for the agricultural development of Tunisia.
