Summary: This volume contains the proceedings of the research seminar on multivariate statistical inference held at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, October 5-7, 1979. The conference included 7 invited lectures and 35 contributed papers. The theme of the conference was on both theory and application of statistical distributions in a multivariate context. The papers are concerned with classical multivariate normal distribution theory, contingency table analysis, statistical inference on stochastic processes, outlier detection, regression and analysis of variance, time series analysis, and other multivariate topics. Most of the papers are theoretical, although some of the procedures are illustrated with numerical examples. Several of the papers are reviews.
