This book proceeds from an examination of the foreign exchange crisis in which many Third World countries find themselves when they try to develop under capitalist auspices. It also examines the causes of such crises and the various strategies that can be followed to overcome them. Some of these strategies will lead to greater self-reliance and autonomy by the countries concerned, and also to more egalitarian domestic economies. Others will lead to greater dependence, force the Third World countries deeper in debt, and increase domestic inequalities.
