N2  - The first six essays of the present volume are concerned, in one way or another, with what are probably the most important economic policy issues facing the world. There is first of all the conflict, or potential conflict, between pursuit of national policies of full employment and economic growth and the simultaneous pursuit of international economic policies conducive to the interests of the world community. There is  the problem of  reconciling internal economic stability with external balance. There is also the problem of how to redress the balance between the smaller part of the world's population that is rich and growing steadily richer and the greater part that is desperately poor. The six papers reproduced here illustrate the changing climate of opinion concerning international economic problems, as well as their manifold implications.
