since the war; and there is also a final section devoted to international
monetary questions. Policy is considered against an appropriate theoretical background and with an understanding of the controversies which have influenced the authorities' behaviour. Crockett's own experience with the Bank of England and the International Monetary Fund gives him an unusual insight into the authorities' intentions and the pressures which bear upon them
