The aim of the present work is to provide a fully integrated theory of consumer choice and demand, in which the characteristics of goods are taken explicitly into account, as an alternative to ad hoc models devised to deal with special situations. The first part of the book is devoted to the basic development of the characteristic approach, largely in terms of a linear technology, and its application to demand theory.
