The report noted abundance, often a surplus, of agricultural products in the economically more developed half of the world, side by side with continuing malnutrition and even hunger in many of the less developed countries. Prices of agricultural products in world markets have continued to decline, including those of most of the basic exports of the less developed countries, so that their efforts to increase their shipments bring little or no increase in earnings with which to import the capital goods essential for economic development and raise the incomes and standards of living of their farm populations. These are two fundamental problems, of much more than purely agricultural significance, which do not permit of any rapid solution. UR - http://www.fao.org/docrep/016/ap649e/ap649e.pdf ER -
