The book is an attempt to shed some light on the conceptual confusion, by first reviewing the different definitions current in the literature, then proposing a quantifiable measure, and finally
discussing policies which would increase absorptive capacity.
The main contribution of the book is obviously intended to be the
proposed definition, discussed at some length in Chapter 5, and termed the " National Financial Profitability Criterion".
