This report on selected industrial policy instruments was approved by the Industry Committee at its 31st session. The decision to derestrict the report was taken by the Council on 9th November 1977.

The purpose of this study is as follows: -
(1) To determine the extent to which countries have developed specific industrial policy instruments, and the objectives assigned to each instrument or group of instruments.
(2) To determine the nature of the various instruments used and, if funded, the nature and sources of funding.
(3) To determine the effectiveness of these instruments, by examining the objectives assigned to them, and the extent to which they have contributed to the achievement of these objectives.
(4) To determine the extent to which the instruments available are effectively used and by whom.
