Part one of this book concerns the demand for electricity and makes four major contributions. The first contribution, contained in chapters 1&2, is to apply refined econometric techniques to the demand for electrical energy use. The second contribution, which is in chapter 3, is an analysis of yearly peak demand for electricity. The third contribution, in chapter 4, is a study of electricity conservation. The fourth contribution is in chapter 5, which develops a technique for using the demand studies in load forecasting.
Part two of the book turns to the costs of building less electrical generating capacity than suggested by guidelines traditionally followed in the utility industry. The first major contribution in chapters 6&7, is to quantify the effects of electricity availability on the location of manufacturing industries. The second major contribution in chapters 8,9&10, is to provide methods for relating changes in output and employment of electricity-using manufacturing industries to the regional economy as a whole. The third major contribution, in chapter 11, is to use the results of all preceding chapters of the book to estimate the costs of electricity curtailment.
