Conference sponsored by the International Monetary Fund and Columbia University as a memorial to J. Marcus Fleming.
Includes bibliographical references.
This book is the proceedings of a conference held in memory of the late J. Marcus Fleming. He was, of course, a leading light in discussions on the development of the international monetary system, working for the most part as an economist with the Fund itself.
The conference was divided into four sessions. Session I was "The Role of Monetary Policy Coordination to Attain Exchange-Rate Stability ", with papers from Emminger and Volcker. Session 2 covered "I.M.F. Surveillance Over Exchange Rates ", where the contributers were Giersch and Cooper.
Session 3 discussed " How Important is Control Over International Reserves? ", Haberler and Grubel giving the papers. Session 4 consisted of Solomon and Kenen talking on "Techniques to Control International Reserves". Finally,
there are "Concluding Remarks" from Mundell. In addition there is a summary of the discussion after each session.
