The phrase "equitable earnings" may have a number of different
meanings. For Jaques the phrase refers primarily to differences in rates of pay between the employees of a given enterprise. He wants to obtain a logical basis for management decisions on relative wage or salary rates of individuals. The author's doctrine about individual wage differentials is based on long experience as a consultant to a British manufacturing company.
The present work consists of an extension of his Measurement of Responsibility, 1956. Based on this experience he generalizes about what employers should do to establish equitable wage differentials.
