The balance of payments can be viewed either as a constraint on economic policies aimed at optimal employment, consumption, and economic growth, or as an explicit economic target variable that has its own optimum level. Relationship exist between balance of payment and various economic variables like interest rates, output levels and general business conditions within an economy. This book is a step in continuing quantitative investigation of balance of payments relationships in the U.S. The results of the findings demonstrate that there is a high potential return to continuing econometric work on balance of payments topics.
