Paper delivered at a seminar at the American Enterprise Institute, Washington, D.C., in Oct. 1979.
Includes bibliographical references: p. 29-31.
In this text the author traces the intellectual origin and development of general theories in economics from the classical views of Adam Smith to the post-Keynesian analyses of the present. In particular, he explores the impact of the Great Depression on theories of both microeconomics and macroeconomics, which brought Keynes's 'General Theory' into dominance.
