This study examines the reasons why Mutual Savings banks which used to be once the dominant financial institutions in the United States, but now rank in size behind commercial banks, savings and loan associations, and life insurance companies. It tries to ascertain why it lost the original position of dominance and the subsequently it describes the industry's resurgence since World War II in United States.
