The material presented here is mainly based on library sources and on artifacts in the various museums of Nigeria, the National Museum of Ghana and the Horniman Museum in London, England. Most attempts at the synthesis of material of money scattered in various books and journals, are not easily available to the general public. It is therefore the author's intent that this book will help to disseminate information on the evolution of money among those who haven't or cannot have access to previously published material.
