This study is an attempt to establish the relative importance of international and national influences in determining monetary conditions in Europe and to assess the feasibility of independent national monetary policies. The investigation lends some perspective to theoretical discussions of monetary interdependence by providing empirical evidence which suggests the scope of such interdependence within Europe during the 1960's.
