A consensus exists within the World Bank and among most donors on a broad strategy for reducing poverty through economic growth, improved social services, and, when necessary, targeted assistance. The Bank is still concerned with short-term progress in poverty reduction, especially in Africa. This book explores the challenge of achieving best allocation of government and donor resources for sustained growth and poverty reduction in operational terms, with the main focus on what the World Bank should be doing and should do in future in Sub-Saharan Africa.
