This slender volume presents library service guidelines that have been worked through by the Public Libraries Section of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA). 1977. The current version, which was presented at the 1985 IFLA conference, is in the format of "guidelines" because of the wide variance of opinion and practice in various countries. Members of the working group included participants from the Federal
Republic of Germany, the United States, Sierra Leone, Mexico, Hungary, Denmark, and the German Democratic Republic. The book is organized into six chapters: "Public Library Services," "Media of Communication," "Staffing," " Service Points," "Management of Public Libraries," and "Networks and Support Services.
