Summary: Money laundering has a major impact on a country's economy because it affects economic growth, weakens individual banks and can be a threat to a country's overall financial sector. A key imperative for government is to ensure that the banking system is not used for money laundering and terrorist financing and it is impossible to achieve this goal without the active involvement of bank supervisors. This guide aims to support implementation of international standards as established by the FATE, the Basel committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) and other bodies. It also presents key elements for an effective AML/CFT on-site and off-site supervisory system and proposes appropriate tools and methodologies.

Money laundering has a major impact on a country's economy because it affects economic growth, weakens individual banks and can be a threat to a country's overall financial sector.
