Chapter 1 of this text concerns the evolution of the industry, and chapter 2 examines the criteria fro the location of heavy industry. Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6, with attention to such matters as the availability of raw materials, power, water, efficient and inexpensive transportation, abundant skilled labor, and industrial markets. Chapter 7 analyzes two large, important firms in the industry, emphasizing the contrasting role between private and public enterprise. The concluding chapter considers the expanding role of heavy industry in Spain's developing economy, the possible impact upon the industry from economic integration with Europe, and prospects for the future.
