The book is written as an introductory primer on the subject of program design. Chapter 1 through 3 are designed to provide primarily history, philosophy and background needed for subsequent discussion. Chapter 4 through 6 describe respectively, the subjects structured programming, structured design, and pseudo-coding. Chapter 7 focuses attention on the fact that while programming remains an art to some degree, there is considerable opportunity to facilitate structured design and subsequent debugging through good style habits. Chapter 8 emphasizes the evolution of data base technology and its impact on the process. Chapter 9 describes how structured design and programming practices impact on the management planning, organizing and control process. Chapter 10 summarizes the theme of the discussion and offers a prediction for the future.
