Summary: The book offers a simple and to some extent a nonmathematical exposition of the demand for money function. Simplicity, however, is not the only advantage of this study. It is also a complete and systematic treatment of the subject matter under consideration. The book is divided into three parts dealing with the demand for money in a macroeconomic framework, with alternative formulations of the function at issue, and presenting us with a number of conclusions drawn from the empirical evidence. Part One of the book examines the role of the demand for money within the lines of the simple short-run model of macroeconomic equilibrium which is based on the Hicksian IS and LM functions.
