This is the proceedings of a conference of Indian, Pakistani, and Ceylonese (now Sri Lanka) economics held in June in Kandi and organised by the International Economic Association (with the support of the Ford Foundation and UNESCO). The purpose was to compare the development problems of their respective countries. Issues discussed include: inequality, the reward of enterprising elites versus distributive justice; centralised versus decentralised planning; the role of aid as an addition to productive resources versus as merely substituting for higher domestic savings.
