520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This text represents a successful attempt to "concentrate
upon what appear to be the more enduring aspects of the subject" while at the same time maintaining contact with the real world by placing these aspects in historical perspective. In fact, Parts III and VI (of the seven divisions) of the book, which deal with the "Historical Background of Modern Monetary and
Banking Developments" and "Financial Policies in Operation," provide an excellent review of monetary events of the past.
Part I (Money and Credit), Part II (Commercial Banks and Related Institutions) and Part IV (The Federal Reserve System and Instruments of Monetary Management), which are mainly descriptive in nature, round out the sections which cover what in the not too distant past would have composed a course in Money and Banking. The relegation of the financial mechanics of the "reserve equation" to an appendix to Part IV is an excellent way of treating this item from the point of view of both instructor and student. Part V (An Introduction to Monetary and Fiscal Analysis) is devoted principally to income-expenditure analysis (81 out of 100 pages in the section).
