| Summary, etc. | Long-term output trends show substantial growth in agricultural output for Eastern Europe. Wheat has made the strongest gains among the field crops. Gains in livestock output are related to the increased use of wheat for feed. Higher incomes and shifts in consumer denied have led to increased imports of vegetable oils, cotton, fruits, and tobacco. Trade for the area also shows that agricultural exports have increased faster than imports, but the import demand for Czechoslovakia and East Germany is still high. U.S. agricultural exports to the area have moved downward since 1964. |
