520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. In 1968, there was a marked improvement in the prices of most of the commodities discussed, with the notable exception of tea the price of which declined further. Coffee has continued to benefit from a lower world output than was expected as also from the International Coffee Agreement. The disappearance of Rhodesian leaf from world markets has resulted in a marked rise in the prices of flue-cured tobacco of other origins, while the prices of several other types also reached record figures. The world price of cocoa showed a continued rise, due to the crop being in short supply for the third year in succession. World prices of spices continued to follow the supply and demand position. The highlights of 1968 were the renewal of the International Coffee Agreement for a further period of 5 years, and the adoption of the text of the new International Sugar Agreement which came into force on 1st January, 1969.
