Chapters on the social, political and demographic background of Malaya are contributed by Silcock, Sadka and Caldwell; Corden deals with prospects for Malayan exports and the balance of payments problem, whilst Wharton looks critically at the relationship of the all-important rubber industry to the economy Fisk, McKenna and Wheelwright discuss rural problems, financial developments, and industrialisation, respectively, and the book concludes with a general review of economic policy by Silcock.
