The goals of this book are: First, since no book can be kept completely up to date, especially in a fast-changing field like transportation planning, the authors decided to provide a modular frame work within which new information can easily be incorporated. Second, the book has an orientation towards solving urban transportation problems, regardless of the disciplinary backgrounds needed to do it. Third, and finally, since urban transportation problems pervade almost all avenues of life, there's also an interdisciplinary input to the book.
