The original goals in writing the book have been preserved: (1) to cover basic ideas, problems, and principles found in all types of modern insurance and other methods of handling risk; (2) to emphasize the fundamental unifying elements of risk and insurance; and (3) to stimulate thought about the problems of risk and insurance through questions at the end of the text which often cannot be answered by short factual statements taken directly from text material.
