The book examines industrialisation with reference to policies, trade, exports and a a host of other related issues. The authors argue that in many developing countries, industry was over encouraged relative to agriculture and this was done in a manner which unnecessarily discouraged both industrial and agricultural exports. Inward looking, high cost, imports substitution development was the result, which in addition to discouraging exports, also made it easy to earn high profits. The authors argue that alternative policies could achieve greater efficiency and higher employment both in the industrial and agricultural sectors, and a fairer distribution of wealth
