The book examines the role of financial intermediaries in the Indian economy particularly since the commencement of the Plan era. The scope of the study has been limited to the agencies which supply finance mainly to the large-scale industries in the private sector, i.e., commercial banks, the Industrial Finance Corporation, the Industrial credit and investment Corporation, the Life Insurance Corporation and the Refinance Corporation for industry. The author also discuss briefly on two new institutions in this area, the Unit Trust and the Industrial Development Bank of India.
