Since 1978 China has undertaken a series of reforms designed to modernize the banking and financial system and to implement a sound and credible monetary policy. These reforms were based on a comparative analysis of Chinese economic conditions and the Federal Reserve System in the USA. This book analyses these reforms, assesses the effectiveness of the monetary policy that was put in place, describes how the reforms contributed to Chinese economic stability during the Asia financial crisis.
