In the Social Sciences, we are still groping after relationships among observed facts that possess sufficient permanence to be called principles; and this present study is an attempt to decipher out of the heterogeneous mass of observed facts, in the complex world of modern business, some tentative principles that have a general significance. In this edition, the author seeks to interpret the businessman's point of view; and tries to face the problems presented by accounting and by the law, by confining the discussion to the practical necessities of interpreting corporate accounts, and to what may be considered the practical legal necessities of the corporation respectively.
